Big Core Prometheus (ビッグコア・プロメテウス, Biggu Koa Purometeusu^?) is the first boss from Salamander III.

Description

Big Core Prometheus is a large Core Warship with a single central core. Initially based on Big Core MK I and Big Core Duo (which is also a modified variant of this kind), it is heavily modified with weaponry that is often associated with its successors. It initially appears from the left of the screen, quickly moving to the right and carving out a path on the organic matter.

Attack Patterns

*Note: All attack names are purely conjectural*

• "Laser Streams" - Big Core Prometheus fires its large lasers from the cannons on its wings to restrict the player's movement. These lasers are based on Big Core MK-III, in Phase 2, these lasers are often fired.
• "Beam Shot Prometheus" - Initially it fires 4 beam shots from its frontal guns like Big Core MK I. After destroying its barrier covering which activates the boss' core, at this point it spreads its wings and fire beam shots at a higher pace, turning 4 into 6 lasers. This attack is heavily inspired from Big Core MK II & Big Core MK III.
• "Shielding" - Big Core Prometheus has a shield barrier protecting its layer in the depths of the Organic Region. Once destroyed, it will transform and change its tactics.

In Loops 3 and beyond, the terrain itself has been modified to make it harder to dodge the aforementioned attacks.

Trivia

• Despite its design, the second form of Big Core Prometheus is similar to Big Core Duo from Gradius ReBirth, a bit of the "Fanservice" side of the other game.
• Destroying the Shielding reveals its Shield panels will start to change its phase, in higher loops, the Shield can fire bullets so the player should be cautious to dodge it.
• This Core Warship is named after Prometheus, the Titan who took the fire from the Olympian Gods and gave it to humanity in its earliest days.
